An intimate dinner party set in Franschoek on a dreamy summer’s evening, surrounded by only love, their favourite people and divine food and wine. Vicki and Skye Clark met whilst studying their Post Graduate Diplomas at the University of Cape Town in 2012, and on a trip to Lisbon Portugal in 2019, seven years later,
“Skye proposed on his birthday whilst we walked the streets to find a wine bar…”
It can’t get any better than that, right? Oh so wrong; the rest of the evening was spent exploring the city and sipping on Ginja, with a dinner at the iconic Ramiro to end the lover’s night off.
When it came to their special day, the couple stayed true to themselves, steering clear of wedding formalities that they didn’t feel resonated with them,
“…it was important that our wedding represented us as a couple” said Vicki.
Suffice it to say that even their wedding cake was a perfect reflection of their experiences together, with a tower of Pastéis de Nata as a memory of their engagement in Portugal.
MARRIAGE TO US MEANS
A commitment to love one another unconditionally, through the highs and lows. A best friend to enjoy life’s adventures with and a support like no other.
WEDDING DATE
13 March 2021
GUEST TOTAL
60
WEDDING LOCATION
Boekenhoutskloof, Franschhoek. I always dreamed of getting married here. I lived on the farm for many years – it holds a lot of sentimental value to me.
FLOWERS & BOUQUETS
Our wedding planner Nikki Du Plessis from Bride Sidekick is a specialist in floral design. I have always admired her floral work so I gave her free reign and loved what she did. To complement the eclectic aesthetic of our wedding each floral arrangement was unique. We had a mix of all the beautiful fresh flowers that were in season, grasses, greenery and amaranths.
FOOD & DRINKS
Annalize Catering (Annalize Buchanan and Ollie Swart) did our catering. Food is a big part of our lives so it needed to be a big part of the wedding. We had the most amazing harvest table and canapes (including one of my favourites, braai broodjies), followed by family-style sharing platters as a main. Everyone that knows me, knows how much I love an Aperol Spritz so these were non-negotiable. The wines served were Boekenhoutskloof and Buitenverwachting wines, both made by two very important men in my life.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Matt Kay, The Woods Photography. We love Matt’s slightly more artistic and in the moment style of shooting. He did an incredible job at capturing our day and all the intimate moments. We love his work!
AND WHAT ABOUT FINDING THE PERFECT GOWN?
The bride wore Cloé – Nomad, for her wedding day scent, simple gold loop earrings, along with the Bo & Luca ROSALIE crown and floor-length veil to accessorise her look. Her hair and makeup was done by her talented and good friend, Juliette Carroll. Vicki had been following Bo & Luca for a while and after her first visit, she knew she didn’t need to look any further. She even said she immediately fell in love with more than one gown on the rail!
“There was one gown that ticked all the boxes – this was the DALLAS gown. The intricate beading and tea-dyed silk layers along with the classic, modern design is timeless perfection.”
When it came to her bridesmaid’s dresses, Vicki said, “Skye and I had a bridal party as opposed to bridesmaids and groomsmen. This was a group of our best friends. We wanted them to wear whatever they felt most comfortable in.
SPECIAL WEDDING SONGS
I walked down the aisle to Holocene by Bon Iver.
After signing our register, we exited the venue for photos to Intro by The XX.
Arrived back to the reception to Kiara by Bonobo.
CEREMONY & RECEPTION DÉCOR
The natural beauty that surrounded us was the perfect backdrop. We went for natural light, with a romantic, yet eclectic feel.
HONEYMOON
We stayed at Babylonstoren in Franschhoek and Birkenhead House in Hermanus to enjoy both a farm and coastal getaway.
MOST TREASURED MOMENT OF MY WEDDING DAY
Having all the most important people in my life around me during a time where travelling across borders was close to impossible.
ADVICE FOR BRIDES-TO-BE
It’s easy for planning a wedding to become overwhelming and to get caught up in making decisions that aren’t true to you as a couple. Make sure you stay true to you as a couple and the process becomes stress-free and the day will be perfect.
